Andre Drummond

What a bummer. After teasing us with the idea of playing college basketball, Andre Drummond announced he will be transferring to Wilbraham & Monson Academy to spend a post-graduate year playing another season of high school hoops.

Previously tight-lipped about his recruitment, Drummond did release five colleges he would consider attending for the 2012-2013 season.

Patric Young, PF/C, Florida

Young started for USA's U19 team this past month, gaining valuable experience against gritty international big men who look more like Bond villains than basketball players.

NBA Lockout

Last summer was great for fans of the NBA. This summer is the exact opposite. I have to wonder, will there even be a season next year? And if yes, will it be too late? Will fans already give up on yet another league of millionaire players fighting with billionaire owners over who should get more millions of dollars?

From this fans perspective, the NBA lock-out seems different than the NFL lock-out. For some reason, I have more resentment for the NBA. Maybe because I expect the NFL to find a resolution and fantasy football to go unharmed. Maybe it's because the NBA lock-out has no end in sight and I know in my heart of hearts it's going to cripple the fan-base for a long time. The NFL can afford to act up a little bit because of how many loyal followers it has. Not the NBA. The NBA is a little closer to the NHL in terms of how far they can push their fans before they just say "f--- it".

NBA Draft Board

Early Surprises

By taking Irving first overall, Cleveland positioned themselves for a reach at 4. Nothing against Tristan Thompson, but I think we all expected Valanciunas here. This selection had a domino effect on the following few picks, as Toronto grabbed JV which lead to Brandon Knight slipping to 8.

Thompson made a late push into the top five, but after watching him at Texas, you would have had to perform hypnosis to convince me he'd go this high. You wonder if teams put too much stock into these combines and workouts. He's got potential on both sides of the ball. But he'll have to bust through his ceiling to justify his draft position.

NBA Mock Draft

The 2011 NBA Draft will take place tomorrow night at 7 pm ET on ESPN. In what has been called a "weak" draft in terms of talent, there are no locks at any spot, including the No. 1 pick. After looking at all of the expert mock drafts, studying the draft websites and even checking in on what vegas has as odds, I've come up with my mock draft for the entire first round. Take a look at what player I have your team picking:

1. Cleveland Cavaliers (From Los Angeles Clippers) - Kyrie Irving - A solid point guard leading the offense is vital for any team to be successful in the NBA. With guards Brandon Knight and Kemba Walker as projected lottery picks, the Cavs could take a bigger player like Derrick Williams or Enes Kanter with the first overall pick and hope that a guard will fall to them at No. 4. But since Irving has proved to be better than Knight and Walker, it might tough to pass up the player who is widely considered the best player in the draft. My thought is that the Cavs will take Irving first and hope that Kanter falls to them at fourth.
